Potential of Glogster in Education
Glogster brings to mind the infamous debate of "Nature vs Nurture." Can talent be nurtured? Frankly I don't have a stand on this but I believe that we can do something if we set our minds to it and when we are given the opportunity to do so.
Taking this course has brought me down memory lane many times. First with the podcast and now with Glogster. I used to draw and paint but somehow lost all ability when I grew up. I wonder why. But discovering Glogster has brought back some of this creativity streak in me. The tools easy to use and I created the above picture in less than 15 mins. The little flowers are animated but of course it is still in this still pix.
I can imagine the pupils having a whale of a time designing and creating an expression of their own. Poster making seems to engage the young minds; although these days, video-making, slideshows or podcasts seem to overtake this simpler joys of drawing by hand.
I remember observing my Art teachers teaching the elements of design. To excite pupils with the possibility of drawing, they used geometric shapes found in powerpoint slides to create a story line with the slide show. The shapes, the sizing, rotating, colours, lines etc were used to compose this story and the result was actually fantastic.
The story of Jack and Jill was re-told by the pupils in so many different ways. I learnt a thing or two about Art from those observations. Now, imagine they used Glogster, the elements of designs may well be further accentuated.
The Verdict ?
We will speak of possibilities when using Glogster and that is a good place to start.
